Oasis Curatorial is a curatorial platform founded and curated by Burçak Yakıcı, an independent curator and art critic with a rich multicultural background and extensive academic training. The organization is dedicated to exploring the intersections between contemporary art, literature, language, and translation studies. With a transdisciplinary approach, Oasis Curatorial seeks to create a dynamic space where artists and thinkers from diverse backgrounds can come together to engage in meaningful dialogues and collaborative projects. Oasis Curatorial actively collaborates with a variety of organizations and artists to realize its mission. Oasis Curatorial collaborate closely with cultural centers to organize exhibitions, artist residencies, workshops and other events. These partnerships provide artists with opportunities for professional development and exposure to new audiences, in cities that they have not worked before.
As an independent curator and art critic, Burçak draws inspiration from her diverse upbringing in various cities such as Moscow, Geneva, Aleppo, Oslo, and Strasbourg, which shapes her multicultural approach to curating and writing. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Strasbourg, France, specializing in the translation of philosophical texts. Currently, she teaches Curatorial Studies in the Department of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Desing, and Architecture, at Bilkent University in Turkey. Beyond academia, she completed the Curating Contemporary Art program at Open Dialogue Istanbul-Akbank Sanat and studied art subjects and writing at Sotheby’s Institute of Art and Oxford University. Besides her academic research published in national and international scholarly journals, she contributes to art publications as an art critic. She’s been a selected participant in “Gathering Spells”, the second iteration of the three year-long research project DE.a.RE co-founded by the European Union in the framework of the Creative Europe Program Promoted by the international association BJCEM – Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée.
